Radiant & Emotionally Powerful

Concert Review, University of Aberdeen New Music Group

The highlight of the concert however was Górecki’s Symphony No.3, ‘The Symphony of Sorrowful Songs’. Over a gentle background of string textures, soprano Jillian Bain Christie sang the text in Polish of a moving inscription found on the wall of a Nazi concentration camp and left there by a young girl. Bain Christie gave a radiant, emotionally powerful performance. Her voice just gets better and better every time I hear her. It was her performance that made this a concert to remember.
